Minimalism – A modern Home design trend

Most of us understand that a minimalist interior design scheme would be an open, airy, clutterless room. But there is much more finesse needed to make this interior style really work well.

This article will deep dive into how to create a calm inspired minimalist interior.

Although minimalists live in homes that appear to have little belongings and a lack of ornamental trinkets, a truly successful minimal home will still be inviting and exude class and serenity.

But how to acheive this? The key is in the details. Instead of buying many decor items the money is better spent on quality not quantity. Use the best stone, timber or marble in kitchen benchtops for example. Take notice of the lines. Create a balance and holistic view to curves and lines matching architecture to furniture. Ensure there is an alignment between everything and that every piece is there for a purpose.

Introduce warmth by the use of naturally occuring materials such as timber, jute and sisal for rugs, cotton and wool for soft furnishings.

Minimalism is becoming increasingly popular as a home style. This is because our lives are increasingly stressful and overwhelming and so creating a serenity at home gives us a sanctuary to come home to. Without the clutter in our lives our minds can follow suit, leaving stress at the front door and inviting peace into a peaceful environment. By being intentional in the way we choose to live can make us more mindful in the way we approach our lives outside of the home too. So a happy offshoot perhaps?!

The usual colour palette to use is usually layers of neutrals or greys. Monochrome is used for a slightly more bold or masculine approach. Using a pop of colour is completely fine. Just use muted tones; a sage green rather than an emerald green for example. And don’t overuse it. Patterns are also to be in moderation. So the use of a rug or wallpaper is encouraged to add warmth and texture but go for unpatterned or tone on tone patterns.
